Cromwell Road Feasibility Study
The Council in partnership with a local housing association, A2 Winchester, have decided that the time is now right to investigate the feasibility of this site for affordable housing.
This decision was taken shortly after the Council owned property at 110 Cromwell Road became void. The reason that this is significant is because it would provide a potential access point to the land at the rear.
While investigations regarding development options continue the Council will use 110 Cromwell Road as temporary accommodation to house a qualifying family in need of a larger property. A non-secure tenancy will be issued so the Council may easily acquire vacant possession of the property at a later date if required. The family to be chosen to occupy the property will also be briefed so it is clear that 110 Cromwell Road is only ever viewed by them as temporary accommodation.
The investigations / actions currently underway or planned for the near future are:
1. Issuing / reviewing existing, licenses to those residents whose back gardens have encroached onto the site.
2. An ecological and tree survey of the site is planned
3. Site clearance is planned, as the site is so overgrown, but at this stage the extent of the site clearance required is unknown
4. A topographical survey of the site is planned
5. Architect involvement to assess possible unit layouts so the density of development can be estimated
The Future
There will be public consultation at a later date if the project is able to progress.
This is a challenging site to develop, so it is likely to take a considerable period of time to assess viability and progress the project
